This dataset contains the de-identified data used in the study “Tai Chi Shows Greater Fall-Risk-Related Balance Benefits in Older Women with Improved Ankle Proprioception and Strength.” The dataset includes 86 older adults (36 men and 50 women) who completed an 8-week supervised 24-style simplified Tai Chi programme. Data were collected before and after the intervention and include Berg Balance Scale (BBS) scores, lower-limb proprioception, muscle strength, and plantar tactile sensation. Proprioception measures include knee flexion and extension and ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion. Muscle strength measures include ankle dorsiflexion, ankle plantarflexion, and hip abduction. Plantar tactile sensation was assessed at the great toe, first and fifth metatarsal heads, arch, and heel. The dataset was used to examine sex-related differences in balance improvement following Tai Chi and the relationships between changes in balance performance and sensory-motor function.
