The structure of 76Zn has been investigated using the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) with a mixed source of ground-state and isomeric 76Cu. From ω-gated ε-ray singles and ε–ε coincidence data, a consistent level scheme of 76Zn has been constructed up to 6 MeV, comprising 59 ε transitions. All transitions included in the present scheme were previously reported, but a large fraction of the additional transitions proposed in earlier work are not confirmed despite comparable or superior statistics. We argue that these discrepancies cannot be explained solely by efficiency or background differences, and tentatively suggest that they may instead reflect different production ratios of the two long-lived ω-decaying states in 76Cu in the various experiments.
