Lifetime measurements via lineshape analysis with the high-resolution

An in-beam y-ray spectroscopy campaign employing HPGe detectors was carried out at the Radio Isotope Beam Factory in the years 2020-2021. Among other advantages, the use of high-resolution y-ray detectors enabled the measurement of excited-state lifetimes through a lineshape analysis based on Doppler-shift e↵ects. In this paper, a brief review of the lineshape method is presented. In addition, lifetime results for the 988-keV 3/2− → 1/2− transition in 131In and the 1655-keV 5/2+ 3/2+ transition in 131Sn are shown in order to discuss di↵erent approaches for establishing T1/2 upper limits when studying fast transitions with lifetimes of up to a few picoseconds.
