A second look at the recently described Scinax pyroinguinis Chávez, Aznaran, García-Ayachi & Catenazzi, 2023 (Anura: Hylidae)

Scinax pyroinguinis Chávez, Aznaran, García-Ayachi & Catenazzi, 2023 is a medium-sized hylid frog assigned to the S. rostratus species group, recently described based on two adult males (the holotype and one paratype) from Coronel Portillo Province, Ucayali River basin, Peru. In this paper, we present new molecular data and expanded morphological data based on nine males and a one female specimen. Additionally, we report two new occurrence localities in Peru and the first record of the species in Brazil, extending the known distribution range by approximately 680 km eastward from its type locality. These findings provide new insights into the species’ diagnostic traits, sexual dimorphism, and geographic distribution.
