Birkbeck College achieved its bicentenary in 2024, and Geography was one of the first subjects to be taught at the institution. This review provides a history of Geography at Birkbeck. It places the department within the context of the College, explaining the foundation of the College, its various names and locations. This review also outlines the underlying objective of the College, something that has underpinned its culture throughout its 200 year history. Because the Department has always been relatively small, this report has focused on the individuals who have made it what it was and still is.
