Irritability and behavioural symptoms in children with Kawasaki disease: a scoping review protocol

Objective: The objective of this scoping review is to map and describe the extent, nature, and characteristics of evidence reporting irritability, crying, agitation, fussiness, mood change, or behavioural change among children with Kawasaki disease as a potential indicator for early diagnosis. Introduction: Kawasaki disease, also known as mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, is an acute paediatric vasculitis. Irritability and behavioural symptoms are commonly mentioned clinically, but the terminology, measurement, timing, and clinical significance of these symptoms appear variable across the literature. There are no single studies or systematic reviews looking at irritability and Kawasaki disease. Methods: [BG1.1]MEDLINE via OVID, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library will be searched. Grey literature sources may include Google Scholar, guideline websites, and reference lists of included studies. Search results will be imported into EndNote and screened by two reviewers. Covidence software will assist with screening. Data will be charted using a piloted extraction form and presented narratively with tables and figures.
