Abstract The extreme sensitivity of ZrTe5 to stoichiometry, defect density, and lattice parameters makes controlled crystal growth essential for accessing its intrinsic transport properties. Here we develop a thermal-oscillation-assisted Te-flux method for growing centimeter-scale ZrTe5 single crystals that exhibit clear Shubnikov–de Haas (SdH) oscillations in low-temperature magnetotransport. The optimized protocol combines charcoal-assisted Te purification, an inner-crucible-free necked quartz ampule, and a tailored thermal-oscillation sequence within the narrow ZrTe5 growth window. Compared with preoptimized flux-grown samples, the optimized crystals form ribbon-like platelets with typical dimensions of 10 × 2 × 1 mm3, with phase-pure orthorhombic Cmcm structure, sharp Laue spots, and a (020) rocking-curve width of 0.06°. Low-temperature magnetotransport provides a further benchmark of sample quality. The optimized crystals show clear SdH oscillations starting at ∼0.38T and a nearly linear Hall response with n = 8.33 × 1016 cm–3 and μ = 6.16 × 105 cm2 V–1 s–1. These results establish controlled Te-flux growth as a practical route to large, high-quality ZrTe5 crystals for quantum-transport studies.
