Strengthening participatory migration health research in a changing political environment

Across Europe, rising anti-migrant sentiment is reshaping migration governance and public discourse. Rather than recognised as a potential for development and a matter of human rights, migration is increasingly framed as a security issue.1 This shift is reflected in restrictive migration policies, the criminalisation of migrants and organisations supporting them, and the growing use of health systems as instruments of migration control.1–4 These developments hinder migrants' access to healthcare, while declining support for civil society organisations (CSOs) and migration health research undermines participatory and cross-sector migration health research.
