Phragmidium tuberculatum Jul. Müll., Ber. dt. bot. Ges. 3: 391. 1885 Description. Spermogonia not observed. Aecia, uredinia, and telia mixed. Aecia hypophyllous, orange-yellow; aeciospores 25–30 μm diam., echinulate. Uredinia hypophyllous; urediniospore 19–22 × 15–19 μm, echinulate. Telia hypophyllous, black; teliospores 5–7 - celled, 60–100 × 23–36 μm, coarsely verrucose, apical papillae 5–18 μm long; pedicels 52–136 × 14–26 μm, swollen at base. Specimens examined. Notes. This species is distinguished by two unique spore ornamentation types: urediniospores with echinulae arising from a mushroom-shaped base (gyroscopic-echinulate type) and aeciospores with echinulae arising from a plaque-like base (plaque-echinulate type) (Liu 2021). These features are not found in other Phragmidium species on Rosa. Phylogenetically, it forms a well-supported clade sister to P. altaicum (Fig. 1).
