Thirty Years of Geography at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz 1995–2025

The article documents the history and achievements of the geographical community at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz from 1995 to 2025. The study presents the evolution of the organizational structure – from the establishment of the Department of Geography to the creation and functioning of the Faculty of Geographical Sciences – as well as the development of academic staff, research infrastructure, and teaching facilities. Particular attention is devoted to the evolution of the educational offer over the past 30 years, highlighting the importance of study programmes that are unique within Poland, such as inland waterway revitalization. An important part of the study comprehensively characterizes the scientific and applied activities of the staff of the Institute of Geography, and later of the Faculty, including monographs and numerous articles in the fields of physical geography and socio-economic geography. Attention is also given to activity and cooperation with external institutions, indicating its significance within the national system of science and its growing role in international research collaboration. The findings of the study clearly state that, over 30 years of operation, the Bydgoszcz geographical centre has held an important place on Poland's scientific map.
