Phragmidium zangdongii Y. M. Liang & Yun. Liu, Mycological Progress 17 (8): 967–988. 2018 Description. Spermogonia and uredinia not seen. Aecia hypophyllous, up to 12 mm long; aeciospores 20–23 × 17–19 μm, echinulate. Telia hypophyllous, black, 0.2–0.4 mm diam.; teliospores 11–13 - celled, 82–110 × 23–31 μm, coarsely verrucose, apical papillae up to 10 μm long; pedicels 132–152 × 14–16 μm, swollen at base. Specimens examined. China, • Xizang, Tibetan Plateau Ecological Observation Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, on Rosa tibetica Yu et Ku, 24 Jul. 2016, Yingmei Liang and Jing Cao (BJFC -R 02447, BJFC -R 03013). GenBank numbers. ITS: MH 128372 (BJFC -R 02447), MH 128373 (BJFC -R 03013); LSU: MG 669108 (BJFC -R 02447), MG 669109 (BJFC -R 03013). Notes. Described from Xizang, China, on Rosa tibetica (Liu et al. 2018), this species is notable for its 11–13 - celled teliospores (82–110 × 23–31 μm) and the development of uredinia on fruits — an unusual trait in the genus (Liu 2021). It resembles P. fusiforme and P. rosae - lichiangensis in teliospore cell number but differs in having cylindrical teliospores (vs. fusiform in P. fusiforme) and longer pedicels (132–152 μm vs. 65–111 μm in P. rosae - lichiangensis). Phylogenetic analysis places it in a well-supported clade (Fig. 1).
