Phragmidium handelii Petr., Meddn Göteb. Bot. Trädg. 17: 121. 1947 Description. Spermogonia, aecia, and uredinia not seen. Telia black, pulverulent, on fruits and branches, up to 2 cm diam.; teliospores 12–16 - celled, 69–101 × 19–24 μm, coarsely verrucose, apical papillae 2–10 μm long; pedicels 75–132 × 10–16 μm, slightly swollen at base. Notes. Distinguished by its 12–16 - celled teliospores (69–101 × 19–24 μm), this species possesses the highest number of teliospore cells recorded in the genus (Liu 2021). It forms large, crust-like telia on fruits and branches, often causing host deformities. In the phylogenetic tree, it occupies a well-supported clade distinct from other Rosa - associated species (Fig. 1).
