It provides the modelled benthic-cover estimates underlying the global, regional, and subregional assessments presented in the report, detailed interactive results, and contributor information. The "Status of Coral Reefs of the World: 2025" report provides a comprehensive assessment of the status and trends of shallow-water coral reefs worldwide from 1980 to 2024, focusing on changes in hard coral, macroalgae, and turf algae cover. License and terms of use The materials made available through this Zenodo repository may be used, shared, and adapted for research, education, conservation, policy, and other non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given. Any use of the data, modelled estimates, or other materials contained in this repository must cite this Zenodo repository using the citation provided in the How to cite section. Where appropriate, users are also encouraged to cite the associated "Status of Coral Reefs of the World: 2025" report. The workbook contains 12 sheets, including one for the global assessment and one for each of the ten GCRMN regions. Contributions are reported according to the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). 03_modelled-data.csv 03_modelled-data.csv contains modelled estimates of benthic cover derived from hierarchical Bayesian models for hard coral, macroalgae, and turf algae, from 1980 to 2024 at the global, regional, and subregional scales. Spatial boundaries for the GCRMN regions and subregions are available in the associated gcrmn_regions GitHub repository (https://github.com/GCRMN/gcrmn_regions). The methods used to standardise, model, aggregate, and analyse the data are described in the Materials and Methods chapter of the "Status of Coral Reefs of the World: 2025" report. The 03_modelled-data.csv dataset contains the following 12 variables: "category": Benthic category (either "Hard coral", "Macroalgae", or "Turf algae") "level": Geographical level (either "global", "region", or "subregion") "region": Full name of the GCRMN region "subregion": Subregion number "subregion_name": Full name of the GCRMN subregion "year": Year of the annual estimate (1980–2024) "median": Posterior median estimate of benthic cover (%) "lower_ci_95": Lower bound of the 95% credible interval for benthic cover (%) "upper_ci_95": Upper bound of the 95% credible interval for benthic cover (%) "lower_ci_80": Lower bound of the 80% credible interval for benthic cover (%) "upper_ci_80": Upper bound of the 80% credible interval for benthic cover (%) "data_obs": Boolean indicating whether monitoring observations were available and contributed to the model estimate for the corresponding geographical unit and year (TRUE) or not (FALSE). Estimates for years without observations (i.e. FALSE) are model-based predictions and should therefore be interpreted with consideration of their associated uncertainty. Missing values (NA) in variables "region", "subregion", and "subregion_name" indicate that the variable is not applicable at the corresponding aggregation level (e.g. subregion is not applicable to global or regional estimates). 03_modelled-data.csv contains model-derived estimates and does not contain the original monitoring observations compiled for the report. Original monitoring datasets remain subject to the access and reuse conditions established by their respective data providers (see https://github.com/GCRMN/gcrmndb_benthos). 04_detailed-results The 04_detailed-results_*.html files provide detailed results of the benthic-cover models at the global and regional scales. Each self-contained HTML file can be opened locally using a standard web browser and allows users to explore modelled temporal trends and associated uncertainty.
