An Analysis of the Structural Relationships Among University Students’ Career Indecision, Course Satisfaction, University Satisfaction and Dropout Intention
Résumé fourni par la source
The purpose of this study was to analyze the structural relationships among university students’ career indecision, course satisfaction, university satisfaction, and dropout intention, and to examine the direct effects of these variables on dropout intention. To this end, data from the 2025 freshman panel survey at H University were used, with a total of 590 respondents included in the analysis. Descriptive statistical analysis and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) were conducted, and the direct effects and structural pathways among the variables were examined using structural equation modeling(SEM). The major findings were as follows. First, career indecision had a negative effect on course satisfaction, whereas its direct effect on university satisfaction was not statistically significant. Second, course satisfaction had a positive effect on university satisfaction and a significant negative effect on dropout intention. Third, career indecision had a positive effect on dropout intention, while university satisfaction had a significant negative effect on dropout intention. Fourth, additional analysis of the structural model confirmed a significant indirect pathway through which career indecision increased dropout intention by lowering course satisfaction and university satisfaction. This study demonstrates the multifaceted influence of career indecision, course satisfaction and university satisfaction on university students’ dropout intention. Based on these findings, the study suggests that helping students establish clear career goals and providing positive classroom experiences should be prioritized in order to reduce dropout rates in higher education settings.
