Multiphase delivery systems, with two or more distinct components, show high drug loading and release regulation abilities, drawing much biomedicine research attention. They can precisely control drug release by modulating structural and interfacial features. However, challenges like poor stability, inaccurate release prediction, and complex preparation hinder their wider application and industrial progress. This review offers a systematic examination of the multiphase delivery systems, detailing their transformation processes based on the formation mechanisms and influencing factors of diverse systems. Additionally, it underscores the application of these systems within the field of human medicine, while also drawing comparisons with their utilization in animal and plant medicine. In essence, this review provides a comprehensive and insightful examination of the current state and challenges faced by multiple delivery systems.
