Le résumé fourni par la source
Distributed temperature sensing (DTS) technology represents an advanced approach for localizing significant sources of infiltration and inflow (I/I), which can lead to cost-optimized spending on rehabilitation programs. As the DTS method will identify temperature gradients in the sewers, it highlights where infiltrated rainwater is influencing the wastewater being carried to the downstream treatment plant. Compared to other methods of locating and quantifying I/I source inputs, DTS use could be considered expensive unless considering the extent of information this method generates. Flow monitoring alone is only capable of quantifying flow quantities during active I/I events, and these data do not indicate location of discharge to the system. This paper explains what DTS is, the benefits of using it to find sources of I/I, and what lessons learned can help others implement this technology more effectively in the future.
