Data and R code for: Past flow intermittence duration influences microbial and invertebrate community structure and ecological processes after flow resumption

This repository contains the data and R scripts used to investigate how the duration of past drying events (flow intermittence) impacts stream ecological functioning after flow resumption, in two intermittent streams (Orge, ORG; Ormançon, ORM; Northeast France). Twelve monitoring stations (ORG1–ORG7, ORM1–ORM5) were sampled along a flow intermittence gradient, characterized by the number of days of flow cessation (0 to > 200 days), determined from continuous temperature sensor data. The dataset includes measurements of: · Organic matter decomposition (leaf litter and cotton strip mass loss / tensile strength) · Aquatic fungal community structure (sporulation rate, taxonomic richness, Shannon diversity) · Macroinvertebrate community structure (abundance, taxonomic richness, Shannon diversity, shredder proportion) · Primary production (biofilm biomass, chlorophyll-a on PP strips, chlorophyll-a on cotton strips, NDVI) · Watershed, hydromorphological, and physico-chemical characteristics of the 12 stations R scripts (numbered 01 to 08) reproduce all statistical analyses (Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney U tests, Kruskal-Wallis/Dunn tests, nested model comparisons (constant, linear, quadratic), Spearman correlations, Principal Component Analyses) and figures presented in the associated publication; corresponding outputs are provided in the results/ and figures/ subfolders. Station ORG2 experienced flow cessation during part of the decomposition incubation period; it is excluded from decomposition statistics but still shown, for reference, in the corresponding figures, and retained in all other analyses (see script headers for details).
