Methodology of Clinical and Psychophysical Quantification of Interocular Suppression in Amblyopia and Strabismus: A Scoping Review Protocol

Interocular suppression is a key feature of amblyopia, and numerous clinical and psychophysical methods have been developed to quantify it. However, these methods vary considerably in the suppression characteristics assessed, methodological implementation, and quantitative outcome representations, making comparison and interpretation across studies challenging. This JBI-guided methodological scoping review aims to systematically characterise methods used to quantify interocular suppression in amblyopia according to the suppression characteristic measured, methodological implementation, and quantitative outcome representation. The review will provide a comprehensive methodological overview of existing suppression quantification approaches, identify areas of methodological convergence and variation, and highlight methodological gaps in the current evidence. Findings from this review are expected to inform future methodological research and the development and validation of clinically applicable suppression assessment tools.
