Effect of the High Barrier Hemicellulose‐Based Coated Paper on Postharvest Quality of Banana
Résumé fourni par la source
ABSTRACT This study developed a biodegradable HC/PVA‐coated paper to overcome nondegradability and poor barrier performance in traditional packaging. The composite formed a dense hydrogen‐bonded network, achieving superior oxygen barrier (HC/PVA bilayer‐coated paper OTR: 4.79 cm 3 /(cm 2 day·0.1 MPa)) and mechanical strength (39.65 MPa). Compared with single‐layer counterparts, HC/PVA bilayer‐coated paper coating demonstrated enhanced preservation efficacy under 21% O 2 , reducing banana peel browning by 35.53%, maintaining firmness (2.13% loss after 3 days), and suppressing LOX/PPO activities. Microstructural analysis confirmed cellular integrity preservation through fiber‐pore filling and interfacial reinforcement. The work establishes a green packaging strategy with dual functionality of biodegradability and high‐performance preservation, providing theoretical and technical foundations for sustainable food packaging development.
