Summary Central Petroleum acquired a test line in the Amadeus Basin, Northern Territory, in advance of planning the acquisition of a full 480km 2D seismic program in the area. The test line was acquired to ascertain the optimum acquisition parameters for the main acquisition, as well as demonstrating the value of new acquisition. Sources used were light and heavy weight drops of 500kg and 1,400kg respectively. Stryde node receivers were deployed along the testline (“main line”) as well as in a “2.5D” configuration of 4 parallel receiver lines (“ghost lines”). There was also a central patch of denser nodes, over which the receiver spacing was halved along the main central line, and the lighter source was interleaved with the heavier source; essentially halving the source spacing (“dense section”). This acquisition configuration allowed for decimation tests, analysis of light and heavy sources, and processing all receiver lines either separately or as a 2.5D survey. The analysis of results has been focused on the innovations holding the most promise for acquisition improvement on the subsequent full survey. Results showed that the heavy source adequately illuminated the target level and compared favourably to adjacent vibroseis data. Ghost lines contributed an improvement to data coherency and justified the additional acquisition effort, as did the additional nodes included within the central dense section.
