Real-World Impact Through Community-Engaged Teaching

Community-Engaged Learning, a high impact practice that places collaboration with community-based organizations at the heart of a course, provides numerous opportunities for students to develop growth mindsets and to apply their academic learning to real-world challenges. As faculty and partner organizations work together to connect students to community-based work, they also experience professional and organizational growth. The panelists in this session, who represent disciplines from across USU, will share their approaches to integrating community-engaged learning into their courses. Whether through direct service, policy analysis, research, or public presentations and events, these experienced faculty aim for mutually beneficial and reciprocal partnerships that center the needs of communities alongside student learning. Panelists will also describe the various ways they assess student learning through formative methods and reflection.
