Le résumé fourni par la source

This study examines 72 surficial sediment samples collected from Mushao Beach in Sanmen Bay (Zhejiang Province, China) to investigate grain-size characteristics and sediment transport trends in a tidal-flat environment. The spatial distribution of particle size and the direction of net sediment transport were analyzed using grain-size fraction analysis, and the Gao–Collins Grain Size Trend Analysis (GSTA) method. In addition, Random Forest regression and K-means clustering were applied to quantitatively assess the relative importance of grain-size components and to visualize sediment textural differentiation. The sediments in the study area are dominated by sand and silt, with an average grain size of 5.24 Φ and generally poor sorting. Coarse-grained sediments are mainly distributed in the berm–beach zone, forming a distinct shore-parallel belt. In contrast, silt content is relatively higher in the tidal flat, particularly on its nearshore side, and is scattered in the northeastern part of the tidal flat. The GSTA results identify a single convergence zone, with net transport vectors directed from coarse-grained areas toward a potential fine-grained accumulation zone. The coarse-grained fraction is associated with relatively stronger tidal currents and wave action, indicating higher transport capacity, whereas the fine-grained sector reflects comparatively low-energy conditions favorable for fine-particle deposition. These results provide a practical case study that complements sediment transport trend investigations in sand–gravel shorelines and support the integration of traditional grain-size analysis with quantitative machine-learning approaches.
