Application of loop-mediated isothermal amplification for the diagnosis of viral hepatitis: a systematic review and meta analysis

Viral hepatitis is a serious public health problem in Brazil and worldwide. Molecular diagnosis is performed by detecting DNA/RNA through polymerase chain reaction (PCR). However, this technique is expensive and requires highly trained personnel. Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is a faster, lower-cost, and easier-to-perform molecular detection technique, but the effectiveness of the method for diagnosing viral hepatitis is still quite controversial. Objective: To evaluate the performance of the LAMP technique for the diagnosis of viral hepatitis through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methodology: The PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases will be used to search for studies that used LAMP for the detection of viral hepatitis. Two researchers will independently extract the data and assess the quality of the literature using the QUADAS-2 tool. The meta-analysis will be performed using the free software R 4.2.1, using a set of methods and procedures: forest plot and its respective measures, trim-and-fill, OR, and ROC analysis.
