Leadership at an Inflection Point: Emerging Directions from NLS Award Winners
Résumé fourni par la source
Leadership research is at an inflection point. Longstanding theories of leader traits, styles, and effectiveness are increasingly strained by contemporary organizational realities, including artificial intelligence, shifting norms around power and participation, heightened moral scrutiny, and growing demands for inclusive and prosocial forms of influence. This panel symposium brings together Network of Leadership Scholars (NLS) award winners to examine emerging directions in leadership research that move beyond static models toward dynamic, process-oriented, and cognitively grounded perspectives. Panelists draw on award-winning research programs to address leadership emergence in fluid and decentralized contexts, the dynamics of morally relevant leadership, prosocial and relational influence in teams, and leadership in AI-enabled organizations. Rather than revisiting established debates, the panel highlights unresolved tensions, methodological innovations, and future research opportunities shaping the next generation of leadership scholarship. Through moderated discussion and audience engagement, the symposium aims to foster integrative dialogue across leadership subdomains and to advance theoretical and methodological agendas for studying leadership in complex, evolving organizational environments.
