Le résumé fourni par la source
As the demand for lithium-ion batteries grows with the shift to electrification and renewables, the need for the critical minerals used in these batteries is also expected to grow. Because of this, there is a push to secure a domestic supply of these materials such as graphite. Coal is being investigated as a potential feedstock for graphite production because of its high carbon content and abundance in the United States. This presentation will highlight recent work on temperature-dependent performance of coal-derived graphite with a comparison to a commercial graphite material. Application of the multi-species, multi-reaction (MSMR) model will be discussed to explain the dependence of cell performance at different temperatures to the physical processes occurring within the graphite electrode (i.e., extent of lithiation over different states of charge).
