[Toxoplasmosis and pregnancy].
Résumé fourni par la source
Congenital toxoplasmosis has become rare in France. Primary prevention is based on hygiene and dietary measures. Serological screening is mandatory in France. When maternal infection occurs in pregnancy, prophylactic treatment (spiramycin for first trimester; pyrimethamine and sulfonamide for second or third-trimester infections) reduces the risk of placental transmission. Prenatal diagnosis is performed by amniocentesis. In case of congenital toxoplasmosis, prompt treatment with pyrimethamine and sulphonamide reduces the risks of brain or eye damage; long-term follow-up of the child is required.
