An exploratory evaluation of the therapeutic potential of Parmentiera aculeata

The chemical composition of Parmentiera aculeata extracts was analysed by GC–MS and NMR. Two extracts were prepared by maceration at room temperature: a fruit extract (PA-F) and a leaf extract (PA-L). The PA-F extract showed the highest antioxidant activity and phenolic content, whereas the PA-L extract exhibited the strongest antimicrobial activity, particularly against Streptococcus pyogenes. In addition, both extracts reduced 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)–induced ear edoema in a murine model by approximately 20%. These findings highlight P. aculeata as a promising source of bioactive compounds with therapeutic potential.
