v1.0.0 — Initial archived release This is the first archived release of the Living Landscape grazing pressure index map. The release contains an interactive web map of inferred relative livestock grazing pressure across the Living Landscape study region in the South Australian mallee. The index was developed from: pastoral dam locations; remotely sensed estimates of water persistence; dam decommissioning information; and a distance-decay model of grazing pressure away from artificial water points. Higher index values indicate areas expected to experience greater grazing pressure because they are closer to more persistent water sources. Lower values indicate areas farther from persistent water points or associated with less reliable or decommissioned dams. The grazing pressure surface was developed to support spatial assessment of understorey condition and related State-and-Transition Model mapping across the Living Landscape case study region. This map is intended as a broad-scale decision-support product. It should be interpreted alongside field validation, local ecological knowledge, management history and the assumptions of the grazing-pressure model, including the estimated recovery period following dam decommissioning and the distance-decay relationship.
