Laser technology has an increasing demand for nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals. 4- N, N -Dimethylamino-4′- N ′-methyl-stilbazolium 4-methylbenzenesulfonate (DAST) crystals are one of the promising materials that can be used in practical terahertz-wave generation. In this paper, a high-quality DAST crystal with a size of 28.5 × 25.1 × 1.4 mm 3 was grown by the slow cooling method. The X-ray rocking curve and AFM show that the grown crystals exhibit a minimum full width at half-maximum (fwhm) of < 51 arc sec with good surface quality. Moreover, the thermal properties such as specific heat capacity ( C p ) and thermal conductivity (κ) were investigated for the first time within the temperature range of 303 to 423 K, and the value of κ at 303 K was calculated to be 0.255 W m –1 K –1 . The laser damage threshold (LDT) of the grown DAST crystals has been measured as 0.101 GW cm –2 under a 1064 nm laser irradiation. By use of our grown DAST crystals, wide spectral detection of terahertz waves (2.2–30 THz) has been successfully achieved at room temperature. This work provides important parameters and demonstrates future applications of DAST.
