This repository contains the geometric morphometric datasets used in Testas et al. (submitted), Revealing archaeological olive diversity: insights from stone geometric morphometrics, experimental charring, and varietal identification (Port-la-Nautique, France, Roman period) (full reference will be provided upon acceptance). The repository includes x- and y-coordinates describing the closed outlines of dorsal and lateral views of olive stones, stored as Momocs Out objects (.rda files). For the experimental charring dataset, an additional .xlsx file provides linear measurements recorded before and after charring. The acquisition and processing protocol is described in the associated publication, and the R scripts used for the analyses are available upon request. The repository comprises four datasets: (1) Measurement error dataset: 375 outlines from five domesticated accessions, acquired by five operators over three sessions (with and without two manual landmarks). (2) Modern reference dataset: 5,778 outlines from 193 domesticated and wild accessions, used for CVP analyses and comparison with archaeological material (with and without two manual landmarks). (3) Experimental charring dataset: 1,080 outlines from four domesticated accessions, plus an .xlsx file containing measurements before and after charring. (4) Archaeological dataset: 84 waterlogged olive stones from Capelles Lake (30 BCE–70 CE) and 177 charred olive stones from Port-la-Nautique (mid-2nd to 3rd centuries CE).
