Background The cosmeceutical products constitute an emerging field between the domains of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, which have both esthetic and pharmacological functions. Nevertheless, traditional cosmeceuticals face some problems related to poor skin penetration, poor stability, and insufficient effectiveness. In order to improve such disadvantages, nanotechnology can be considered as a novel technique that helps in providing cosmeceutical formulations with desired characteristics. Scope In this way, the present paper is a systematic review devoted to nanotechnology in cosmeceutical products. It includes an overview of various nanotechnology-related cosmeceutical formulations, methods used for their creation, techniques of skin penetration, applications in anti-aging, skin bleaching, anti-acne, and photo-protection fields, types of nano-carriers utilized, as well as clinical data and future directions in the area. Safety and Regulatory Aspects Moreover, the review contains safety issues, regulation peculiarities, and other aspects associated with the development of nanotech-based cosmeceutics.
