Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Selected Themes of Kishori Programme Among Adolescent Girls at a Selected Government High School, Sasaram.

— Background: The adolescence age group is an important period during which the girls experience many health problems such as anemia, malnutrition, menstrual hygiene issues, and lack of reproductive health awareness. The Kishori programme is being implemented with the aim of improving health, nutritional status, and empowering the adolescent girls, but the awareness of the program facilities is lacking. Objectives: To assess the effect of the STP on the knowledge about selected topics related to the Kishori program and finding out the relationship between pre-test knowledge and selected demographic variables. Methods: A pre-experimental quantitative study design of one group pre and post-test was used for this purpose among 60 adolescent girls at a selected Government High School, Sasaram. Data collection was done using a structured knowledge assessment questionnaire on the topics such as nutrition, anemia prevention, menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, life skills, and Kishori program facilities. A pre-test was taken before administering the STP intervention. Results: The findings from the pre-test revealed that 71.7%, 23.3%, and 5% of respondents had inadequate, moderate, and adequate knowledge, respectively. After the programme, 71.67% of respondents had adequate knowledge, whereas 28.33% of respondents had moderate knowledge, with no one having inadequate knowledge. It was observed that there was a marked improvement in the level of knowledge after the STP intervention. Conclusion: The Structured Teaching Programme proved to be an effective health education tool to improve knowledge about certain aspects of the Kishori Programme among adolescent girls. Health education programmes based on regular schools can help in increasing awareness and promoting healthy behavior among adolescents.
