Le résumé fourni par la source
BIFROST is a near-infrared (1 − 1.7μm) beam combiner and spectrograph that will be installed at the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) as part of the ASGARD array. To achieve fringes with an astronomi- cal interferometer the beams of each telescope must be path length matched to below their coherence length. BIFROST will rely primarily on the large delay lines of the VLTI and other instruments (HEIMDELLR), but additional delay correction will be needed during operation. This small amount of delay correction (+-1 mm minimum total distance) needs to be smooth and accurate (in the order of 50 nm steps) whilst being directly implemented into the BIFROST servers. This paper will first discuss the delay actuator requirements needed to achieve the science goals of BIFROST. The main body of the text will discuss each requirement and the performance of the current actuator used and the future planned design.
