The study was conducted at Uganda Heart Institute, Mulago, Kampala Central Uganda. The general objective was to find out the lived experiences and copying mechanisms of parents of children with CHD. The study employed a qualitative descriptive phenomenological design and included 20 in-depth interviews with parents of children with CHD and 4 Key informants with health workers. Data was collected using interview guides and key informant interview guides. The study found out that majority of the care takers (19) were females and there was only 1 male. The lived experiences of parents were; anxiety, heart breaking experience, state of con-fusion/uncertainty, emotional disturbance, blame, neglect and financial constraints. The copy-ing mechanisms of parents of children with CHD were; spirituality, personal support, partner support, family support, health worker support in terms of counseling and giving knowledge and community support. Some parents also got support from NGOs which was financial Help through performing surgery. The study concluded that parents of children with CHD are always in tears and have emotion-al challenges. It is therefore our recommendation that; the government should make cardiolo-gy services accessible in all health centers, train workers and provide echo machines, make surgery easily accessible and affordable. Furthermore, hospitals and cardiology units make special efforts to fully assist all parents and children with congenital heart disease in terms of the psychological component.
