Digital technologies in the diagnostic phase of the Nursing Process: a scope review

Introduction: The integration of digital technologies into healthcare reflects a sociotechnical transformation process that is directly impacting nursing practice, particularly through resources such as electronic health records and health information systems. Within the Nursing Process—a systematic method organizing care into five stages—the Nursing Diagnosis plays a central role in clinical reasoning and decision-making. This study focuses on the use of digital technologies in clinical practice, emphasizing the diagnostic stage, with the aim of enhancing the quality of care and strengthening patient safety. Objective: To identify scientific studies addressing the use of digital technologies during the diagnostic stage of the nursing process in clinical practice. Method: For this review, conducted according to the methodology proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute and reported in line with PRISMA-ScR guidelines, the search strategy will be structured using controlled descriptors from DeCS, combined via the Boolean operators AND and OR, covering terms related to the Nursing Process and digital technologies. The search will be performed across the following databases: PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, and BDENF. Study selection will be carried out by two reviewers, and data will be extracted using a standardized tool and presented in a table format.
