This critical review examines two complementary articles on language education and social transformation. The first article, by Malta, Silva, Emiliano, and Araújo, advocates for the integration of critical language education with active methodologies. It argues that moving beyond traditional, passive teaching models through the use of technology and dynamic strategies is essential for creating a multiliterate classroom where students become active participants in their learning. The second article, by Tilio and Rocha, provides a deeper, humanistic perspective, emphasizing that criticality alone is insufficient without affect. Rooted in Freirean thought, it stresses that language teaching must take a clear political and ethical stance to build bridges of respect and humanity, especially in times of social intolerance. Together, the texts offer a holistic vision: the first supplies practical tools and methods, while the second provides the ethical foundation. The review concludes that teaching is never neutral, and that true educational transformation requires blending critical awareness with human affect, making these readings essential for educators seeking meaningful change in their practice.
