Le résumé fourni par la source

Sialolithiasis results from the obstruction of the salivary glands by stones (sialoliths), causing swelling and pain. Although rare in the parotid gland (10% of cases), it is common in the submandibular gland (87%). In addition to pathological evaluation, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis can be used to determine the nature of the material. The patient, a 40-year-old man, presented with symptoms of swelling and pain on the left side of the face, worsened during chewing and before meals. A computed tomography (CT) scan confirmed the presence of a sialolith in the parotid gland. Treatment involved the surgical removal of the sialolith, which was successful, resulting in symptom resolution without complications during the postoperative follow-up. CT and ultrastructural analysis with SEM and EDS can effectively characterize sialoliths.
