Pathogens associated with febrile illness in children attending healthcare facilities in West Africa: A systematic review (Embase via Ovid).
Résumé fourni par la source
Abstract Up to 80% of children seeking medical attention in Africa present with acute febrile illness. Epidemiological data on the locally circulating pathogens causing fever are essential to inform clinical management and for public health interventions. This systematic review sought to understand the aetiologies of febrile illness among children in healthcare settings across West Africa. We included cross-sectional, case-control, and retrospective studies which used laboratory methods to detect pathogens causing fever in children aged 1 month to 15 years. A literature search was conducted in Medline and Embase via OVID, Science Direct, DOAJ Connecting Repositories (CoRE) and Google Scholar for studies published from 2013 to 2023. Data was extracted on pathogens detected using gold-standard laboratory tests. A risk of bias assessment was conducted using the appropriate version of the CASP checklist for each study type.
