Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Validation of the Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire (CFPQ) in a Spanish Sample
Résumé fourni par la source
A cross-sectional, observational, multicentre methodological study is proposed. It is aimed at the cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire (CFPQ) for Spanish parents of children between 6 and 11 years-old. Permission to proceed with this cross-cultural validation study was formally requested via email from and granted by Dr. Shayla Holub, one of the co-authors of the original instrument. Initially, the translation of the original English questionnaire into Spanish will be conducted following the protocol for translation proposed by Sousa & Rojjanasrirat (2011). In addition, the conceptual equivalence will be evaluated following the approach suggested by Stewart & Nápoles-Springer (2000). This step aims to ensure that the construct to be measured exists, is relevant, and is culturally acceptable in the Spanish context, guaranteeing that the instrument addresses the appropriate domains with the correct value and emphasis, and that the items adequately represent the construct's definition. This will be achieved through a literature review and consultation with experts from the target group regarding equivalence, relevance, adequacy, and acceptability, as well as to identify any potentially missing items. Once the final version of the questionnaire is obtained, the psychometric properties of the validated instrument (pre-final version) will be analysed using a representative sample of the target group, specifically parents of children between 6-11 years-old. Current psychometric recommendations will be followed for this purpose. First, the instrument's functioning will be analysed by examining the minimum, maximum, 25 and 75 percentiles, skewness, kurtosis, and discrimination index for each item. Next, the analysis of the internal structure will be addressed through a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) (Viladrich et al., 2017) to evaluate the adequacy of the factorial structure proposed in the original validation by Musher-Eizenman & Holub (2007). Furthermore, an invariance analysis by parent gender will be performed to verify the structural equivalence of the instrument across both subgroups (Wu & Estabrook, 2016). Finally, the convergent validity of the instrument will be analysed. For this final purpose, we will perform correlations using the Children Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (Wardle et al., 2001). Hypotheses: (1) It is expected to obtain the 12-factor internal structure proposed in the original version (Musher-Eizenman &Holub, 2007), as well as adequate psychometric properties for a Spanish sample. (2) It is expected to obtain invariance (at least metric invariance) as a function of the parent's gender, aligning with the results obtained in a sample from the United Kingdom (Lozano-Casanova et al., 2026).
