A Comparative Analysis of Processing Parameters of Annona Oilseeds Cultivars: Engineering Applications for Machine Design

ABSTRACT This study investigates comparative analysis of some engineering processing parameters of two distinct cultivars of Annona seeds ( muricata [] and squamosa []) under moisture contents modulation and loading orientations. Thus, focusing on their implications for applications in design of agricultural processing machines. Some key parameters under physical and mechanical properties including axial dimension, size, density, and compressive strength were investigated using standard methods. The physical properties analysis revealed that while both cultivars shared similar characteristics, exhibited higher mean values across all parameters at varying moisture contents. Mechanical properties evaluations under compression loading at horizontal and vertical orientations showed that generally had higher mean values at all moisture contents, and loading orientations except for specific orientations of . Analysis of variance indicated that moisture content significantly () influenced the physical and mechanical parameters of the two cultivars. Most correlations between processing parameters under physical and mechanical properties for and were linear, except for their rupture force, rupture energy, and hardness. Regression models developed for and demonstrated strong positive correlations () between moisture content and the studied parameters. This comparative study not only contributes to the existing body of knowledge on Annona seeds but also provide valuable data for engineers in the agricultural machinery sector to develop suitable agricultural processing machines that would handle processing of Annona muricata , and Annona squamosa seeds. Hence paving the way for innovations in Annona seeds handling and processing technology and fostering their commercial production and utilization.
