Platanthera pervia (Orchidaceae), a new taxon for the flora of Slovakia

Abstract Platanthera pervia is a taxon typically associated with populations exhibiting intermediate morphological traits. In this study, we present new data on the occurrence, distribution, and population characteristics of these populations in the Western Carpathians of Slovakia, collected during field surveys conducted between 2015 and 2025. Based on their morphological similarity and geographic proximity to populations previously assigned to P. pervia in neighboring regions, these Slovak populations are tentatively assigned to this taxon. However, given the unresolved taxonomy of the complex and the absence of comprehensive morphological and molecular analyses across its full distribution range, this assignment should be regarded as provisional. Most populations recorded were small, typically comprising fewer than 10 individuals, although a few larger populations were also documented. Due to the limited available data, their conservation status in Slovakia cannot yet be reliably assessed. Nevertheless, documenting these populations is important for future mapping and research.
