A color image encryption algorithm based on Logistic-Tent map, dynamic S-box, and bit-plane operations

Abstract With the increasing threats of image data leakage and misuse, image encryption has become a vital approach to protecting visual content. However, existing methods often face security risks due to insufficient confusion or inadequate diffusion. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a dynamic S-box with high nonlinearity, low differential uniformity, and near-ideal SAC. Building upon this S-box, the algorithm independently processes each RGB channel through bit-plane encryption, followed by pixel-level scrambling and bidirectional diffusion. This S-box-centric design ensures comprehensive security across numerical, bit, and spatial domains. Experimental results show that the key space reaches 2 256 , encryption time is about 1 s, and information entropy exceeds 7.999. The algorithm also exhibits strong resistance to noise and cropping attacks, with NPCR and UACI values close to theoretical ideals. It thus provides a reliable solution for protecting sensitive information in fields such as secure image transmission and medical imaging.
