1907-P: Consumer Wearable Device Use and Data Sharing among Older U.S. Adults ≥65 Years Old with Diabetes
Résumé fourni par la source
Introduction and Objective: Older adults with diabetes are increasingly expected to engage with digital health tools for self-management. This study examined the prevalence and predictors of consumer wearable device use and data sharing among US adults aged ≥65 years with diabetes. Methods: We analyzed pooled cross-sectional data from four cycles of the Health Information National Trends Survey (2019-2024). Study outcomes were self-reported use of consumer wearable devices (smartwatches, fitness trackers, medical monitoring devices) and sharing device data with healthcare providers. Survey-weighted multivariable logistic regression examined associations with sociodemographic characteristics and digital access indicators (internet access, patient portal use). Results: Among 2,490 older adults with diabetes (mean age: 74.0 years, 53.9% female, 58.7% non-Hispanic White), 15.7% (95% CI: 13.6-17.7%) reported wearable device use. Significant predictors of device use were home internet access, active patient portal use, household income ≥$75,000, and meeting 150-minutes weekly threshold for moderate-intensity aerobic activity (Figure). Among device users, 47.3% (95% CI: 39.8-54.9%) reported sharing their data with healthcare providers. Conclusion: Consumer wearable device use among older adults with diabetes is limited. Expanding wearable-integrated diabetes care requires addressing barriers to digital access and sustained use in this population. Disclosure Y. Hong: None. H. Shao: None. Z. Xie: None. T.M.
