Original research hydrophilic sealant, and DenteShield, an organoselenium-based sealant, in terms of clinical performance using Modified Ryge-United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria among children aged 6-8 years. Materials a n d Methods Study DesignThis was a randomized, single-blinded, split-mouth clinical trial.Patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected from the Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry Outpatient Department (Table 1).Sealants were assigned by simple randomization by a chit system: group I received DenteShield (Elevate Oral Care), and group II received Embrace WetBond (Pulpdent).Prior to participation, introduction Pit and fissure caries are formed by caries formation on deep grooves on the occlusal surfaces of the posterior teeth, which trap debris and bacteria.1 Fluoride application is a preventive measure that is seen to be useful in the prevention of caries formation, but is, however, only useful along the smooth surfaces of the teeth. 2 Biofilms on tooth surfaces foster bacteria within an extracellular matrix, leading to plaque build up and enamel erosion, which causes dental caries.3 This disease is a major global health issue, with high prevalence, particularly in molar pits and fissures.4 The Global Burden of Disease Study 5 reports that dental caries affects approximately 2.5 billion people and has increased by 14.6% over the past decade, with prevalence rates of 46.2% for primary teeth and 53.8% for permanent teeth.6 Pits and fissures on occlusal surfaces trap debris and microorganisms, increasing caries risk. 1 Sealants provide a protective barrier against caries-causing bacteria.Traditional hydrophobic sealants are sensitive to moisture, whereas newer moisture-tolerant sealants, such as Embrace ® WetBond, offer improved adhesion and effectiveness without requiring a separate bonding agent.7 However, they may not prevent pellicle formation, a precursor to plaque.DenteShield by Elevate Oral Care uses organoselenium to inhibit pellicle formation, potentially further reducing caries risk, although clinical evidence is limited.8 Organoselenium functions by generating superoxide radicals that inhibit bacteria, including streptococcal species.9 Against this background, this in vivo study aims to assess and compare the clinical effectiveness of Embrace ® WetBond, a 1-
