Factors that Determine E-Business Adoption Intention among Small Scale and Medium Enterprises in Bauchi State

The aim of this study is to examine the factors that determine e-business adoption intention among SMEs in Bauchi state. The study adopted survey cross-sectional research design and collected data using primary method through self-administered questionnaire from 384 SMEs operators in Bauchi state. The collected data was analyzed using PLS-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). It was found that performance expectancy, effort expectancy and facilitating condition have significant positive influence on e-business adoption intention among SMEs in Bauchi state, while hedonic drive was insignificant. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that e-business vendors should promote campaign and training programs aimed at creating awareness of SMEs about the measurable business benefits of the technology. Also, government’s initiatives of digitalizing SMEs should give emphasis on highlighting how e-business improves productivity and profitability as well as how it is simple to operate. Equally, government should focus more on improving digital infrastructures such as reliable internet connectivity and stable power supply as well as enhancing access to technical support and digital literacy for SMEs owners. Lastly, government should strengthen digital trust infrastructure by reinforcing legal and regulatory frameworks that protect SMEs against online fraud, data breaches and transaction failures.
