This dataset, compiled from the official Portuguese Institute of Statistics (INE), contains four detailed Excel sheets from the Population and Housing Censuses of 2001 and 2021. The first two sheets focus on the construction period and conservation state of buildings. Specifically, the first sheet provides 2001 data on buildings by geographical location, categorized by their construction period (from before 1919 to 2001) and their state of conservation (good, needing repairs, or dilapidated). The second sheet presents the equivalent and comparable data from the 2021 Census. The final two sheets pertain to housing occupancy. The third sheet contains 2001 data on occupancy status, and vacancy types, while the fourth sheet provides the corresponding 2021 data. This structure facilitates powerful longitudinal analysis of Portugal's building stock evolution, housing conditions, and occupancy trends over two decades, supporting research in urban planning, sociology, and demography.
