insulin levels, which fatally leads to their dysfunction.Various factors like age, obesity, dietary choices, physical activity, smoking and genetic background contribute to the development, many of which are modifiable 3 .Maintaining stable blood glucose is very important given that long-term hyperglycemia is associated with serious outcomes, like cardiovascular disease, renal impairment, peripheral neuropathy and retinopathy 1 .It has been demonstrated that metabolic diseases like diabetes Abstract Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a long-term metabolic condition that impairs the physiological function of various systems, like the cardiovascular system, the retina and the oral cavity.Insufficient control of blood glucose levels and insulin sensitivity can deteriorate existing oral pathology as well as endanger the normal function of the oral mucosa.This article aims to dissect the connection between diabetes and oral cavity pathology, and to disambiguate the importance of the dentist's role as part of holistic healthcare team.For this study we conducted a literature review using PubMed and Google Scholar, focusing on recent studies that explore the connection between diabetes and oral cavity health.Many oral pathological entities of the oral cavity, like periodontitis, peri-implantitis, oral candidiasis, xerostomia and aberrant wound healing have been demonstrated that are associated with diabetes mellitus.These complications often demand coordinated management that involves both medical and dental professionals.Dental care professionals play a pivotal role in preventing, diagnosing and treating diabetes-related oral cavity complications.We also deciphered that collaboration between multiple healthcare providers is crucial for maximizing the patient's life quality.
