This dataset supports the study entitled “Impact Assessment of Lack of Good Practices of Fisheries Policy and Its Effect on the Fisheries Sector in the Coastal City of Bosaso.” The dataset was collected from fishers and fish traders operating in Bosaso, Puntland, Somalia. A total of 62 respondents participated in the study, including fishers and traders. The dataset contains information on socio-demographic characteristics, fish species affected by post-harvest losses, categories of losses, stages of losses, and factors influencing fisheries sector performance. The study identified economic loss as the dominant category of post-harvest fish loss, with marketing-related challenges representing the largest proportion of losses. The dataset can be used for fisheries management, policy analysis, post-harvest loss reduction strategies, blue economy development, and future research in Somalia and other coastal regions. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 and include descriptive and inferential statistical outputs. The dataset is openly shared to promote transparency, reproducibility, and evidence-based decision-making in the fisheries sector.
