Résumé fourni par la source

All articles of this category (opens in new window) Introduction: Soft tissue sarcomas are rare neoplasms, comprising less than 1% of all adult malignancies, and about 10% of these tumors occur in the retroperitoneum space, a site difficult to access for diagnostic biopsies, and require advanced surgical tactics. Objectives: To report the experience of the Surgical Oncology Service of the Irmandade da Santa Casa de Misericórdia of Porto Alegre in the treatment of retroperitoneum sarcomas. Material and Methods: Retrospective observational study, through the search of anatomopathological reports, review of medical records and active search of data from patients operated on this service from May 1 of 2000 to December 31 of 2018, with diagnosis and resection of retroperitoneum sarcoma tumors. Data analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS 25.0. Results and Discussion: 77 retroperitoneum sarcoma surgeries were performed in 30 patients, 13 (43.3%) female and 17 (56.7%) male, with a mean age of 58.57 years. Of these patients, 21 (70%) were from primary neoplasms, 5 (16.7%) from relapses, 1 (3.3%) from metastatic disease. The most frequent histological types were liposarcoma in 12 (40%), malignant fibrous histiocytoma in 7 (23.3%), leiomyosarcoma in 5 (16.7%). As for staging, 5 patients (16.7%) were stage I, 6 patients (20%) were stage II, 14 (46.7%) at stage III and 5 (16.7%) at stage IV. The mean 5-year survival rate was 64% at follow-up. Most of the surgically intervened tumors were found to be due to primary neoplasia. The data presented correspond to the medical literature, demonstrating the severity of this pathology.
