Abstract This study investigates the heave and pitch free decay response of a semi-submersible floating offshore wind platform using Computational Fluid Dynamics. Model-scale simulations are performed with a two-phase Navier-Stokes solver, employing a volume-of-fluid free-surface method and a deforming mesh to capture rigid-body motions. A verification analysis is conducted to assess iterative convergence, discretisation errors, and numerical uncertainty obtained from grid refinement. The influence of computational domain size and the number of decay cycles used for post-processing is examined. Hydrodynamic coefficients, including natural periods, added mass, and damping terms, are extracted from the simulated decay responses and compared with available experimental data. The results show good agreement for natural periods and added mass, while damping coefficients are more sensitive to numerical setup and data processing choices.
